The training to become a geriatric care assistant gives you the professional knowledge and skills you need to provide qualified assistance in caring for the elderly.
As a geriatric care assistant, you work in a team, you help with the care and support of older people, e.g. with personal hygiene and with eating. You will also support the nursing staff with medical and nursing care.
You will be involved in the day-to-day activities of the seniors and accompany them in everyday life. This requires a lot of empathy and communicative competence.
After this training, you can take on nursing and social tasks under the guidance of a nursing specialist.
Admission requirement:
- High school diploma
- Health suitability (medical certificate)
- Police certificate of good conduct
- Sufficient knowledge of German (usually B2 level)
- Training contract with a facility for outpatient or inpatient care for the elderly
The one-year training course is free of charge for you. You will receive a monthly training allowance from your training company.
Duration of training: 1 year
Successful completion of the training can serve as an entry point for further qualification as a nursing specialist.
- The instruction in block form includes 720 theory hours.
- The practical training is 850 hours.
A training contract with a care facility is required for the practical part of the training. During the training you will be supervised and accompanied by a practical guide. In addition, there are practical visits by the school.
